Logan: You have our attention.

Don't get me wrong, here at Wayside Trinity, we enjoy superhero movies. However, we rarely enjoy them much more than; "That was kind of fun." In fact, I think the only time we've been truly stunned by a superhero flick is with The Dark Knight (2008), but let's be real here, that was an intense, and exquisitely put together, character driven crime-thriller. It only just sits on the cusp of what makes it a superhero film, and that was simply because it was about Batman. Other than The Dark Knight, we haven't thought much to the superhero genre. But here, with the newly released 'LOGAN' (2017) trailer, something is different.

While, yes, it does showcase what look to be extremely exciting and adrenaline filled action sequences and set pieces, 'LOGAN' shows something else. Here, in just under two minutes, the trailer shows us heart. An old grizzled Logan whose powers seem to be dwindling, and elderly and frail Charles Xavier, and a young mutant girl (x-23?) caught in the middle. Each character seems to be struggling with demons, and living a life of pain following the days of the X-Men.

What appears to have happened here is, without sounding too judgemental of previous movies of the same genre, the filmmakers have put true care into telling an emotional and dramatic story that, just maybe, will be the driving force behind the film. The tone and pace of the trailer is something more reminiscent to what an X-Men film would be like had it been made by an independent filmmaker. A gritty story, an emotional and character centred drama, and a broken hero coming to his end. While at this time it is only a trailer, one which could have been edited to look a hell of a lot better than it is, and of course we are merely speculating, all of the signs add up to what looks to be a real gem.

'LOGAN', you had our curiosity, now you have our attention.
